Postpartum Doula Care

What is a Postpartum Doula:

A postpartum doula is a trained professional who provides physical, emotional, and informational support to a mother and her family during the postpartum period.

This support aims to ease the transition into parenthood, promote recovery, and enhance the well-being of both the mother and the newborn.

Services typically offered by a postpartum doula include:

  • Emotional Support: Offering a compassionate presence, active listening, and reassurance to help new mothers navigate the emotional adjustments after childbirth.

  • Infant Care Assistance: Guiding parents on newborn care practices such as diapering, bathing, feeding, and soothing techniques.

  • Breastfeeding Support: Providing education and hands-on assistance to promote successful breastfeeding experiences.

  • Household Tasks: Assisting with meal preparation, and errands to allow the mother to rest and bond with her baby.

  • Resource Referral: Connecting families with local resources, support groups, and healthcare professionals as needed.

By offering personalized care, postpartum doulas play a crucial role in fostering a positive postpartum experience, helping families adjust to new routines, and ensuring that mothers receive the support they need during this transformative time.

As your postpartum doula, I provide:

In addition to these foundational doula services, I offer specialized care to further enhance your postpartum experience. These include...

  • Bodywork Therapies: Incorporating techniques such as moxibustion—a traditional Chinese therapy using heated moxa to stimulate healing—craniosacral therapy to promote deep relaxation and balance, and various forms of energy work to support overall well-being.

  • Nutritional Support: Providing guidance on nourishing foods and meal plans that facilitate your recovery and boost energy levels during the postpartum period.

  • Herbal Assistance: Offering recommendations and preparations of herbal remedies to aid in healing, lactation, and hormonal balance.

Advanced certification:

I hold advanced certifications that enhances my ability to support new mothers during the postpartum period:

  • Educational Background: I have a minor in Early Childhood Education and am certified in CPR, ensuring both foundational knowledge and emergency preparedness.

  • Professional Certifications:

I strongly advocate for the practice of "The First Forty Days," a postpartum tradition observed in various cultures that emphasizes a 40-day period of rest, recovery, and bonding with the newborn. This period, often referred to as "la cuarentena" in Latin American cultures, allows the new mother to focus on healing and establishing a connection with her baby, supported by family and community.

Embracing this period of rest and utilizing supportive therapies can significantly enhance the postpartum experience, promoting holistic healing and well-being for both mother and child.
